Artist statement
There is a very intimate relationship between me and my artworks. Starting from the little child drawing and painting with unconscious but overwhelming emotions.
Over the years until today, I began to explore complex emotions on a conscious level and express them in my artworks. This process includes: an internal voyage of uncovering the hidden selves, a journey of pursuing the true self under the challenges of the surrounding normality, an experience of suffering from being free and not free, finally a transcending realization in the wild forest of life.
Furthermore, I often use symbols in my paintings, to poetically express the ambiguities in meaning of life, self-identity, love and sexuality. At the same time, I write short poems to complementarily express the emotions and thoughts along the paintings.
My creative ideas come from both theoretical research in psychology, consciousness, science and philosophy, as well as real life struggles and joys.
Visual philosophies and techniques
Through the absence, we think about the presence. When something or someone is missing, we think about it even more than when it’s in front of you. Imperfection perfects itself, it is paradoxically beautiful.
View of esthetics. In the modern world today, art world emphasizes more on the freedom of expression and creativity. While I firmly support it, I still appreciate the lost beauty and esthetics aspects of visual art. My paintings and poems all share my view of esthetics.
Symbolism. I use extensively objects as metaphorical representations. Symbolism is an important element widely used in art both in the west and the east. It inspired me since my early ages. Today it helps me to visualize my abstract ideas poetically.
My paintings are mostly done with oil, oil pastel, and acrylic. It is where classic realism techniques meet comtemporay creativity. Specifically I combine oil pastel and oil paint to leverage their own unique and complimentary features, in order to create specific effects.
